Corneal topography, also known as photokeratoscopy or videokeratography, is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye's refractive power, its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision.
The three-dimensional map is therefore a valuable aid to the examining ophthalmologist or optometrist and can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions; in planning refractive surgery such as LASIK and evaluation of its results; or in assessing the fit of contact lenses. A development of keratoscopy, corneal topography extends the measurement range from the four points a few millimeters apart that is offered by keratometry to a grid of thousands of points covering the entire cornea. The procedure is carried out in seconds and is completely painless.
Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration are diagnosed by detecting changes over time.

Digital Retinal Imaging
Digital Retinal Imaging allows your eye doctor to evaluate the health of the back of your eye, the retina. It is critical to confirm the health of the retina, optic nerve and other retinal structures. The digital camera snaps a high-resolution digital picture of your retina. This picture clearly shows the health of your eyes and is used as a baseline to track any changes in your eyes in future eye examinations.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
An Optical Coherence Tomography scan (commonly referred to as an OCT scan) is the latest advancement in imaging technology. Similar to ultrasound, this diagnostic technique employs light rather than sound waves to achieve higher resolution pictures of the structural layers of the back of the eye.
A scanning laser used to analyze the layers of the retina and optic nerve for any signs of eye disease, similar to an CT scan of the eye. It works using light without radiation, and is essential for early diagnosis of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinal disease.
With an OCT scan, doctors are provided with color-coded, cross-sectional images of the retina. These detailed images are revolutionizing early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as wet and dry age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal detachment and diabetic retinopathy.

Goldman Applanation Tonometer for "Puff-less" Glaucoma Testing
You typically have no warning signs of glaucoma until you already have significant vision loss. For this reason, routine eye exams that include tonometry are essential to rule out early signs of glaucoma and protect your eyesight. Tonometry determines the intraocular pressure (IOP), the fluid pressure inside the eye which ias an important test in the evaluation of patients at risk from glaucoma.
There are a few different ways to measure the pressure. The “Air Puff” test is the most commonly used test because it can be quickly done by technicians. Our doctors use the Goldmann applanation tonometer because it is gentle, more accurate, and does not surprise the patient with a burst of air to their eye.
In applanation tonometry the intraocular pressure is inferred from the force required to flatten (applanate) a constant area of the cornea. In the Goldmann tonometry method, which is the most widely accepted, a disinfected prism is mounted on the tonometer head and then placed against the cornea. The examiner then uses a cobalt blue filter to view two green semi circles applying force applied to the tonometer head until the inner edges of the green semicircles in the viewfinder meet. Once an area of 3.06mm has been flattened, we can determine the pressure in the eye from the force applied.
Goldman Applanation tonometry is painless. At most, you may feel the tonometer probe tickle your eyelashes. The whole test takes just a few seconds.
Normally the test is carried out by a computerised machine, called a Humphrey. Occasionally the manual test has to be used, a Goldman. For each test you have to look at a central point then press a buzzer each time you see the light.

Meibomian gland evaluations. During the slit lamp examination, Our doctors use an instrument that evaluates the meibomian gland function and helps determine the number of functioning glands. Expression of the glands determines whether the patient expresses oil on a full blink or if the gland expresses a thick non-oily substance. The ocular surface relies on the oil in the tears to keep it wet and smooth for the blink.
Meibography. Our eye doctors will determine if all the patient’s meibomian glands are functioning by using Meibox, a meibography imaging test which illuminates the glands with a non-invasive Infra-red light. As the meibomian glands clog, they can become damaged. The longer they are clogged, the more damage occurs and eventually, the gland structure can become atrophied. We only have the glands we are born with, once they are gone; they are gone!
